Lemongrass, ginger and lime make a bright alternative to an ordinary hot drink. The ginger should add a gentle edge, not overwhelm the cup.
Ingredients: serves two
- 500ml water
- Two lemongrass tea bags, or the amount directed on your pack
- Two thin slices of fresh ginger
- Two teaspoons of lime juice, adjusted to taste
- Honey or another sweetener, optional
Method
- Put the ginger and water in a saucepan. Simmer gently for five minutes.
- Pour the hot ginger water over the tea bags and brew according to the pack instructions.
- Remove the tea bags and strain out the ginger.
- Divide between two mugs, then add lime juice gradually.
- Taste before adding any sweetener and let the drink cool enough to enjoy.
Adjust the flavour
For a softer drink, use less ginger or lime. Use fresh slices rather than a large spoonful of ground ginger, which can leave a gritty cup. The K&M guide suggests citrus or honey as optional additions to tea; this is a new combination to try for flavour, not a remedy for colds or other conditions.
