Steep herbal tea for the time recommended on its packet. There is no single ideal brewing time for every leaf, flower, root or blend. A guide for another product may not suit the one in your cupboard, even when both are described as herbal tea.

What does steeping mean?
Steeping is the time the tea spends in the water before you remove the bag or strain the ingredients. Keeping track of it helps you repeat a cup you enjoy. Leaving a tea bag in the mug while you drink makes that timing harder to control.
Start with a timer
Read the instructions before you pour. Use the stated quantity of tea and water, start the timer and remove the bag when the recommended time is reached. If the packet gives a range, start within it and record the result. Your mug size matters too, so use the same mug for comparisons.
What if the cup is too strong?
Check the quantity of tea and water before changing the timing. If the directions allow a range, compare a shorter steep within that range. Do not assume a longer brew is always better. Strength and enjoyment are different things.
