The number of tea bags you need depends on the amount of water and the packet instructions. A “teapot” is not a standard serving size: one pot might hold two small cups, while another fills several large mugs. Measure the water you plan to use before deciding how much tea to add.

Use volume rather than appearances
Fill the pot with cold water once and measure it in a jug. This gives you a useful reference for future brews. You do not have to fill the pot completely every time, so calculate for the water you actually use rather than its maximum capacity.
An example calculation
If a particular packet says one bag for 250ml of water, then 500ml uses two bags at that ratio. This is an example of the calculation, not a brewing instruction for every K&M tea. Use the ratio printed on your chosen product.
Do not forget cup size
Two people with small teacups may need less water than two people with large mugs. Measuring once can prevent a pot that is weaker or stronger than expected. If you make a favourite tea regularly, keep the volume and bag quantity written down together.
Remove the bags before serving
Once the recommended brewing time is complete, remove the tea bags if the instructions call for it. Otherwise the last cup may have spent much longer brewing than the first. Serve carefully and leave room for everyone to add their preferred finishing touch.
