Single-ingredient herbal tea is an infusion made with one named ingredient rather than a mixture. The ingredient list is the way to confirm this. A simple name on the front of a packet does not always tell you whether other herbs, flavourings or ingredients have been added.

How does it differ from a blend?
A blend brings together several ingredients to create a combined flavour. A single-ingredient tea lets you focus on one. Neither format is automatically better: the right choice depends on whether you want to discover an individual ingredient or enjoy a particular combination.
Why start with one ingredient?
It makes a tasting easier to understand. If you compare two individual teas, you can notice how their aromas and flavours differ without working out which part of a blend you are tasting. Keep the cups plain for the first comparison.
What should you check?
Read the complete ingredient list, the preparation directions and the pack size. Similar common plant names can be used differently, so use the supplier’s description for that specific product. Do not assume every tea with the same broad name is identical.
Building your own tea preferences
Choose one tea, make it as instructed and record a few words about the cup. Next time, try another ingredient. Our black sage tea bags are one option to explore alongside the rest of the range. You may discover that you enjoy several different teas for their individual character.
