How to Make a Warm Spiced Apple Drink for Christmas

How to Make a Warm Spiced Apple Drink for Christmas

A warm apple drink gives Christmas visitors something fragrant to hold while they catch up. This version uses lemongrass tea, apple juice and ordinary culinary spices, with no alcohol required.

Ingredients: serves four

  • 500ml apple juice
  • 500ml freshly brewed lemongrass tea
  • One cinnamon stick
  • Two whole cloves
  • Four thin apple slices
  • A small strip of orange peel, optional

Method

  1. Brew and strain the tea according to the pack instructions.
  2. Put the tea, apple juice, cinnamon, cloves and optional orange peel into a saucepan.
  3. Warm gently for about eight minutes without a vigorous boil.
  4. Strain out the whole spices and divide between four heatproof mugs.
  5. Add an apple slice to each mug and allow the drink to cool to a comfortable temperature.

Serving your Christmas apple drink

Use heatproof cups rather than ordinary drinking glasses. Taste before sweetening: apple juice often provides enough sweetness on its own. For a milder drink, increase the proportion of tea. Make small batches so each mug is served warm. Keep the whole spices out of children’s servings and keep hot drinks safely away from little hands.
