You can try milk with some herbal teas, but it is a matter of the ingredient and your taste. The habit of adding milk to black tea does not mean every herbal infusion will suit it. Begin with the tea plain, then test a little milk in a separate portion.

Why try a plain cup first?
Milk changes the texture, aroma and appearance of a drink. Tasting the infusion on its own gives you a reference point. If you add milk from the start, it is harder to tell whether you enjoy the tea itself or simply prefer the familiar milky texture.
Test a small amount
Brew the tea according to its packet. Pour a little into a second cup and add a small splash of milk. Compare both cups once they have cooled to a comfortable drinking temperature. This avoids changing the whole pot before you know whether the combination works for you.
What about plant drinks?
Oat, soya and other plant drinks each bring their own flavour. Sweetened versions can change the cup further. Use a small amount and compare, just as you would with dairy milk. If the mixture separates or tastes unpleasant, choose a different combination rather than adding more.
Other ways to adjust your cup
You might prefer a little honey, a squeeze of lemon or simply a different tea. Make one change at a time. Explore our turmeric tea and other herbal teas, and use the product instructions as the starting point for your own tasting.
