Lavender Tea: What Does It Taste Like?

Lavender Tea: What Does It Taste Like?

Lavender tea is often described through its floral aroma, but the exact cup depends on the product. A plain lavender infusion and a blend containing lavender can be very different tasting experiences.

Floral is a description, not a recipe

The word floral describes an impression of flowers in aroma or flavour. It does not identify every ingredient. A product may pair lavender with other herbs, so the most prominent flavour in the cup may not come from lavender alone.

Read the product as a whole

The complete ingredient list explains whether lavender is the main ingredient or one part of a mixture. A flavouring and a dried botanical ingredient are also different things. Those details help make sense of descriptions that otherwise sound similar.

Useful tasting words

Instead of searching for one universal description, it can be useful to notice aroma, intensity and aftertaste. A floral drink might appeal to one person and feel too strongly perfumed to another. Preference does not make either response wrong.

Other herbal tea styles

A floral theme is one route into herbal tea; leaf ingredients and citrus-themed ingredients offer others. Our range and existing flavour guides introduce some of those different styles. This article is about the language of tasting lavender tea and does not imply that K&M sells lavender.
