Herbal tea can be fruity and refreshing, light and fragrant, or warm and earthy. With so many ingredients to explore, finding a favourite cup is part of the pleasure.
At K&M Herbs, we offer teas made from flowers and leaves, including hibiscus, lemongrass, guava leaf and soursop leaf. Each has its own colour, aroma and flavour. If you are new to herbal tea, here is a simple place to start.
What is herbal tea?
Herbal tea is made by steeping plant ingredients, such as leaves, flowers or roots, in water. Black and green tea come from the tea plant; herbal infusions can be made from many other plants. That is why one herbal tea can taste completely different from another.
In the Caribbean, herbal tea is also often called bush tea. It is a familiar way to enjoy the flavours of different leaves and herbs.
Find a flavour you enjoy
Hibiscus is bright, fruity and pleasantly tangy. It makes a deep ruby-red cup that you can enjoy hot or chilled over ice.
Lemongrass is light and fragrant, with a fresh citrus-like flavour.
Guava leaf, mango leaf and avocado leaf offer different tastes for anyone curious to explore leaf teas. Our range also includes soursop leaf and Caribbean bay leaf.
You do not need to know exactly what you want before you start. Choose a flavour that sounds appealing, try it, and explore another next time.
How to brew your tea
Follow the instructions on the packet for the tea you choose. Place a tea bag in your cup, add hot water and let it steep. Taste it before removing the bag; you can leave it a little longer if you prefer a stronger flavour.
For a cold drink, prepare the tea first, allow it to cool and serve it over ice. Hibiscus is especially refreshing this way.
