Should You Squeeze a Herbal Tea Bag After Brewing?

Squeezing a tea bag is not a universal requirement for herbal tea. The packet directions are the starting point, and removing the bag without pressing it gives you a straightforward way to make repeatable cups.

Separate brewing from handling

The recommended brewing time tells you how the product is intended to be prepared. Pressing a bag afterwards is a separate handling choice and may change how much liquid or fine material reaches the cup. Do not assume every ingredient or bag construction responds in the same way.

Compare your own routine

If you are curious about the difference, keep the product, water amount and brewing time consistent. Note whether you pressed the bag rather than changing several things together. A preference for one cup does not establish a rule for all herbal teas.

Handle the bag comfortably

Use an appropriate spoon or utensil and let the bag drain without touching hot liquid. Dispose of it according to its packaging information. If a bag tears, that is a practical problem rather than evidence that a stronger-looking cup is a better brew.
