Iced hibiscus tea brings the bright colour and tangy flavour of hibiscus to a chilled drink. Prepare the tea using hot water first, following your packet, then cool it for serving.
What you need
Have your hibiscus tea bags, fresh water, a heat-safe vessel, a clean covered container and ice ready. Lemon slices or a small amount of your preferred sweetener are optional. Use the quantity of tea and water recommended on the packaging.
Brew the tea first
Follow the packet’s hot-water preparation instructions and time the infusion. Remove the bags when brewing is complete. If adding sweetener, start with a small amount and stir it into the warm tea. Taste before deciding whether you need more.
Cool and refrigerate
Allow the tea to cool enough to handle safely, then refrigerate it promptly in a clean covered container. Avoid leaving it standing at room temperature for long periods. Follow any prepared-tea storage advice supplied with the product and make a quantity you can enjoy soon.
Serve over ice
Pour the chilled tea into a clean glass over ice. Taste before adding an optional lemon slice: hibiscus already has a tangy character. Ice will dilute the drink as it melts, so serve it when you are ready to enjoy it. This method uses hot-brewed tea rather than steeping dry ingredients directly in cold water.
